22-Year-Old Colon Cancer Survivor, from Hampton Bays, Shares Personal Battle on Dr. Oz Sho

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month and what better way to bring attention to the prevalence of this disease than by showcasing the remarkable journey of Johanna Poremba, a 22-year-old battling colon cancer, who is being treated at New York Cancer & Blood Specialists by Dr. Louis Avvento. Johanna recently taped a segment for the Dr. Oz Show detailing her battle, which will air on: Tuesday, April 4, 2017.

Johanna Poremba was discovered by Producers at the Dr. Oz Show after a social media post about her battle with colon cancer went viral. Initially posted to garner awareness for the disease, encourage people to get screened, and perhaps get a few “Likes” from family and friends; Johanna was amazed by the outpouring of support and overwhelming response her story received. Initially diagnosed in early November 2016, she had a one-inch tumor removed later that month. Johanna continues to receive chemotherapy treatments at New York Cancer & Blood Specialists, at their Southampton location, and regularly sees her physician, Dr. Louis Avvento.

New York Cancer & Blood Specialists recently underwent an exciting expansion and re-branding from NSHOA Cancer Center, which stood for North Shore Hematology Oncology Associates. No longer just located on the North Shore of Suffolk County, the company chose the new name to better reflect their reach. With over a dozen treatment locations in Suffolk County, and additional locations in Queens, the Bronx, and more to come throughout the tristate area, New York Cancer and Blood Specialists strive to bring personalized, community-based, and state-of-the-art innovative cancer treatment to each and every New York Community.
